OUR FOUNDER'S STORY

Why We Built PIC

Professional Integrative Care - Concierge Integrative Primary Care

I spent a long time inside conventional medicine asking myself a question I couldn't shake:

If I were the patient, would I want this?

Fifteen-minute visits. A doctor who hadn't read my chart. Care aimed at whether something was broken yet, not whether I was actually getting healthier.

The obvious answer was no.

That answer was hard to live with. I'd done the training — six board certifications, residency at Ohio State, sports medicine fellowship in Cincinnati. I'd served in the military, where you learn pretty quickly that being responsible for people means actually being responsible for them, not handing them off. I'd gotten an MBA because I wanted to understand how systems work, and why good ones break. Everything I'd learned told me the conventional model was failing the people inside it — patients first, doctors close behind.

The problem wasn't that anyone meant for it to be this way. The fifteen-minute visit wasn't a clinical decision; it was a billing decision. The fragmented care wasn't medicine; it was a side effect of how the money flowed. Once you see that clearly, you can't unsee it. And you start asking what a practice would look like if you stopped working backward from a billing code and started working forward from what patients actually need.

So that's what we did. We built the practice I'd want to walk into as a patient — and as a husband, a father, and a friend. Visits long enough to think. The same doctor across the seasons of your life. An integrative approach that looks for the least invasive path first, and the next one only if the first one isn't enough. Twice a year, we measure what actually matters — body composition, metabolic health, hormones, functional capacity — so we can see how you're trending, not just whether anything's broken. We read, we go to conferences, we argue about the literature. But mostly we learn from you.

The framing we settled on came from a strength coach I look up to and who I've learned a lot from: capacity, not perfection. The point of all this isn't to chase numbers or hit some idealized version of health. It's to give you the strength — physical, metabolic, mental — to handle whatever shows up next. Kids. Aging parents. A late-career sprint. A health scare. The seasons of life don't slow down. Our job is to make sure you're ready for them.

Every person suffers. We're included in that. The premise of this practice is that working together — sharing what we've learned and what we've been through — makes things a little easier, and maybe a little more enjoyable. We're the same. We're different. We're better for it.

We're also building something bigger than this one practice. The longer-term goal is to prove that primary care can be done differently, train other physicians to do it, and help people in towns we'll never see find doctors who practice this way. That part takes time. But the work that gets us there starts here, with you, on the day you decide to join.
