Dan Fosselman
"I want to know you well enough that when something changes — in your labs, in your mood, in your life — I notice. That's the job. Everything else is just the work that lets the job happen."
-Dan Fosselman
A Philosophy of Stewardship, Capacity, and Long-Term Integrity
Dan's practice style is harder to summarize than his credentials. He listens longer than most physicians do. He asks about sleep, about stress, about what's actually heavy in your life right now, before he reaches for the prescription pad. He is biased toward the smallest effective intervention, and toward changes you can sustain for a decade rather than ones that look impressive for a quarter.
How Dan practices
Dan is a generalist by training and by conviction. He is board-certified in six specialties not because he wants to be a specialist in any of them, but because primary care done well requires fluency in all of them. The patient in front of him is rarely one problem, and the work is rarely a single intervention.
In the exam room, his bias is toward attention. He'll spend forty minutes on what an insurance-based practice would compress into eight, because he believes most of medicine is downstream of how a person actually lives — and the only way to know that is to ask, listen, and remember. He takes notes by hand sometimes. He reads his own chart before you arrive.
His method is to change one thing and watch carefully rather than change five things and lose track of what helped. He thinks in years, not in visits. He'd rather have a decade of trend data on you than a moment of perfect optimization, because the goal isn't a peak number — it's a body and a life that hold up under load. When something does need to be addressed, he reaches first for the least invasive option that has evidence behind it, and escalates only when that proves insufficient.
He'll tell you when something isn't his area, and he'll help you find someone whose area it is. He'll tell you when a treatment doesn't have the evidence its marketing suggests. And he'll tell you, kindly, when the answer isn't a supplement or a procedure but a hard conversation about sleep, stress, or how you've been spending your evenings.
Training
Dan is board-certified in six specialties — Family Medicine, Functional Medicine, Sports Medicine, Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine, Ringside Medicine, and Obesity Medicine — with advanced certifications in clinical nutrition, holistic lifestyle coaching, and musculoskeletal ultrasonography.
He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, completed his Family Medicine residency and his MBA at Ohio State University, and finished a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. He served as a physician in the U.S. Army Reserves Medical Corps.
As the founder of the Columbus location in the licensed Regenexx network, he treats musculoskeletal injuries with minimally invasive, ultrasound-guided regenerative procedures — making PIC one of the few primary care practices in the region where your physician can also evaluate and treat your joint, tendon, and back issues with orthobiologics rather than referring you out.
How he thinks
How Dan practices is shaped as much by what he reads as by what he was taught. He returns often to Buffett and Munger on long-term thinking and the discipline of avoiding stupid mistakes. He learned the language of strength and capacity from Dan John, the coach whose work runs through PIC's clinical philosophy. He reads the functional medicine literature, the basic-science papers that change how a question gets asked, and a steady mix of philosophy, biography, and books that have nothing to do with medicine at all.
He writes a weekly newsletter for patients and the wider community, and is working on two books: The Direct Care Practice: A Physician's Field Guide and The Psychology of Health. His blog includes a public training log — partly to keep himself honest, partly because patients have asked.
The longer view
The work is bigger than this one practice. Dan is building PIC alongside two parallel projects: PIC Academy, which will help other physicians learn to practice this way, and PIC Publishing, which carries the writing and teaching outward. The bet is that primary care can be done differently, and that proving it here makes it possible elsewhere.
Outside the clinic
Dan trains. He lifts and runs because he believes a physician should look like he takes his own advice. He practices Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Supersystem because rolling with people who are better than you is a useful reminder of how to learn.
He is married, has two sons, and reads to them most nights. He hikes with his wife when work permits, and trains his dog when she allows it.
He keeps a written life-planning framework across ten life domains because he believes margin and capacity are built on purpose, not by accident — and because he won't recommend to a patient anything he isn't willing to do himself.
